Loom workflow
How to Download Permitted Loom Videos from Skool
Skool contains the lesson while Loom operates the player. Start with Loom’s owner-enabled download, then use the authorized Skool workflow when appropriate.
A Loom lesson has two layers
When Loom is embedded in Skool, Skool provides the classroom page and Loom provides the player. Playback, privacy, processing, and download availability can therefore depend on both systems.
The cleanest workflow is always the one the video owner intended. Use Loom's own download option when the creator enabled it. Use another tool only for a video you own or when the owner has explicitly authorized a local copy. Do not treat the absence of a download button as permission to defeat a restriction.
Confirm that the lesson is actually Loom
Visual branding is useful, but the most reliable clues are the player controls, a Loom link in the lesson text, or a provider label exposed by the downloader.
Skool's official Loom guidance documents Loom as a classroom video host and instructs creators to paste a Loom share link into a course page. That means the lesson URL and video-host URL can be different.
If you are unsure, use the Skool video-types explainer before troubleshooting the whole browser.
Use Loom's native download first
Loom's current official download documentation says owners and eligible workspace roles can download a video from their library, while viewers can download only when the workspace/video settings and their signed-in role allow it. Native Loom downloads are MP4 files.
For a video you own:
- Open it in your Loom library.
- Open the video's action menu.
- Choose Download when available.
- Wait if Loom is still processing the recording.
- Open the resulting MP4 and verify it.
For a video shared by another creator, look for the creator-enabled download action. If it is not available, ask the owner for a downloadable copy or explicit permission rather than assuming the embed may be copied.
Loom notes that interactive features such as calls to action, chapters, and closed captions may not be included in the downloaded MP4. Save permitted supporting context separately when it matters to the lesson.
Use the Skool lesson workflow for an authorized copy
If you own the material or have documented permission and the current product supports the active Loom player:
- Open the individual Skool lesson.
- Confirm the Loom video plays normally.
- Start playback and wait for the player to show movement.
- Open Skool Bulk Downloader.
- Confirm the detected item matches the lesson.
- Choose a useful available quality.
- Keep the lesson open until processing finishes.
- Verify the MP4 outside the browser.
The browser extension does not change Loom roles, Skool access, or the owner's rights. If the video is password-protected, unavailable, still processing, or intentionally restricted, stop and contact the owner.
Pick quality based on the recording
Loom is commonly used for screen recordings, so small interface text may decide the useful resolution. Test the most detailed part of the video:
- use 1080p when code, spreadsheets, or compact menus must remain readable;
- use 720p for talking-head updates and audio-led walkthroughs when the text remains clear;
- do not upscale a source that Loom only provides at a lower resolution;
- preserve the original aspect ratio instead of stretching the file to fill a player.
Read 720p vs 1080p for a repeatable quality test.
Match the symptom to the correct system
| Symptom | Likely layer | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The lesson page loads but the player does not | Loom embed or privacy | Confirm the creator's Loom link and audience settings |
| The video says it is processing | Loom | Wait for Loom to finish preparing the recording |
| Loom plays but the extension detects nothing | Browser activation or current compatibility | Start playback, reopen the extension, and test the latest build |
| A native download action is missing | Loom plan, role, or owner setting | Ask the workspace owner or creator |
| The MP4 lacks chapters or captions | Native file behavior | Preserve permitted notes/captions separately |
| Only Loom lessons fail | Provider-specific issue | Record Loom as the provider in the support request |
Skool's Loom setup guidance also tells creators to confirm their Loom plan and current Loom service status when embedded playback fails. That is a creator-side check, not a reason for a member to change privacy controls.
Organize Loom screen recordings clearly
Generic titles such as “Quick walkthrough” become impossible to distinguish offline. Rename the verified copy using the course module and task:
03-automation/
01-connect-the-data-source.mp4
02-map-the-required-fields.mp4
03-test-the-workflow.mp4
Record Loom in the manifest provider column. If the recording has essential links, a CTA, or a written checklist that is not present in the MP4, note that in the manifest and preserve it only when permitted.
The downloaded course organization guide contains the full folder and status system.
Loom-in-Skool checklist
- The current account can play the lesson normally.
- The player is confirmed as Loom.
- You own the video or have explicit permission to save it.
- Loom's creator-enabled native download was checked first.
- The recording has finished processing.
- A detailed screen segment was used to choose quality.
- The completed MP4 has picture, audio, and the full duration.
- Missing interactive context is documented.
- The final filename describes the lesson rather than the provider.

A Loom lesson can sit beside Skool-native, Vimeo, and Wistia lessons while remaining part of one ordered course job.
